The District Nurses are rotated on a 2 monthly basis with one other Practice. They are based at the PCT Headquarters, Canford House, Discovery Court, Wallisdown, Poole.

District Nurses provide specialist nursing for patients who are chronically and acutely ill and because of the nature or severity of their illness are housebound.

District Nurses do not have a stock of continence pads to give out to the public but they are able to assess continence problems and if products are appropriate then they can request pads through the Primary Care Trust. This process can take 2-4 weeks for a delivery to happen once the assessment has been started.

You can contact the District Nurses on 247777 for routine care, an answer machine will take your message or you can hear the numbers for the out of hours services.

If care is urgent, ie a patient has a blocked catheter and is in pain, or requires urgent administration of medication for palliative patients and those undergoing treatment for cancer then please contact your surgery who will contact the nurses urgently, they will then aim to see you as soon as possible but within two hours.
